HOM

Born in Paris in 1972, Hom Nguyen grew up in circumstances marked by both hardship and quiet heroism. His mother — a Vietnamese refugee who became paraplegic following an accident — raised him alone, and in her example of resilience and dignity he found the deepest source of his artistic sensibility. The anger that took root in him during those early years was held in silence for a long time, slowly becoming the fuel of a singular creative vision.
Her death in 2009 was the turning point that made art not merely a pursuit but a necessity. The monumental portraits that define his practice are rich in texture and color, but their ambition is not primarily visual — they seek out the human soul beneath appearances, holding emotion and introspection in careful balance. Each work is an invitation to confront one's own inner life.
Hom is also a committed humanitarian, contributing his work to organizations including Secours Populaire and to hospitals and charitable institutions. In recognition of this engagement, he was appointed Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite in 2021.
