SAMAN & SASAN

Saman (born in 1985) and Sasan Oskouei (born in 1991) are two multidisciplinary artist brothers from Tabriz, Iran, currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Their artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, and urban interventions.
Influenced by the nature and mountainous landscapes of their native region, they develop a poetic visual language addressing issues such as climate change, migration, and political matters. Their work seeks to convey simple yet powerful messages, bearing hope and alternatives to the status quo.
In the 2000s, under the name Icy and Sot, they became known for their street art in Tabriz, denouncing various social injustices despite a context of severe censorship. After moving to the United States in 2012, they gradually shifted their practice toward monumental installations and sculptures. They are particularly recognized for their works using chain-link fencing and barbed wire to evoke borders, identity, and the refugee experience.
Through various forms, their work champions human rights, equality, women's rights, and environmental protection.
