VHILS

Alexandre Farto, known as Vhils, was born in 1987 in Lisbon. An internationally renowned Portuguese artist, he has developed a radical technique based on subtraction: by carving, drilling, and scraping urban surfaces, he reveals the buried layers of walls to bring forth monumental portraits.
Brought to international attention at Banksy's Cans Festival in 2008, his work has since been presented at the Centre Pompidou, the Palais de Tokyo, the CentQuatre, the Danysz Gallery in Paris, and in numerous institutions worldwide.
